• Music Perception. publishes original empirical and theoretical papers, methodological articles and critical reviews from scientists and musicians studying musical phenomena. The broad range of disciplines covered includes psychology, psychophysics, linguistics, neurology, neurophysiology, artificial intelligence, computer technology, physical and architectural acoustics, and music theory. A peer-reviewed professional journal published quarterly by the University of California Press. Articles are published in English only, but will publish duplicate abstracts in French and German, plus the author's native language.
  
  
• Psychology of Music; Journal of the Society for Research in Psychology of Music and Music Education. Psychology of Music publishes research articles pertaining to studies in listening, performing, creating, memorising, analysing, and describing music. The journal also publishes articles related to the teaching and learning of music, including applied, social, developmental, and attitudinal studies. A peer-reviewed professional journal published quarterly in the United Kingdom by the Society for Research in Psychology of Music and Music Education.
  
  
• Musicae Scientiae; Journal of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music. A peer-reviewed professional journal that publishes articles in all areas of music perception and cogntion. Published semi-annually by ESCOM. Accepts articles in English, French, and German. Will publish abstracts in all three languages as well as in Italian and Spanish.
  
  
• Psychomusicology; A Journal of Research in Music Cognition. A peer-reviewed professional journal published biannually. The publishing schedule is often irregular with many late issues.
  
  
• Empirical Musicology Review; A new public peer-reviewed professional journal scheduled to begin publication in 2006. An empirically-oriented journal that deals with all areas of music scholarship, not just music cognition.
  
  
• Journal of Music Perception and Cognition. A peer-reviewed professional journal published twice annually by the Japanese Society for Music Perception and Cognition. Most articles are published in Japanese. English abstracts are provided for all articles.
  
  
• ESCOM Newsletter. An irregularly published newsletter that conveyes announcements and reports of interest to the members of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music.
  
  
• Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. A peer-reviewed professional journal published 12 times per year by the American Institute of Physics. Topics include all aspects of acoustics including architectural acoustics, physiological acoustics, underwater acoustics, etc. Frequently contains articles pertaining to musical acoustics or music perception.
  
  
• Perception & Psychophysics. A peer-reviewed professional journal published 12 times per year by the Psychonomic Society. Journal covers all areas of research in perception. Includes visual, taste, haptic, and other sensory systems in addition to audition. Nearly all articles convey reports of experimental work, although some theoretical articles and review articles appear. In addition to individual music-related articles, Perception & Psychophysics has published two special issues focussing exclusively on music.
  
  
• Contemporary Music Review. A journal specializing in new music, with special attention on technology and aesthetics. Each issue is exclusively devoted to a single topic. Past issues have included: Music and Psychology; Music, Mind and Structure; Music and the Cognitive Sciences; and Timbre Composition in Electroacoustic Music.
  
  
• Journal of Experimental Psychology - Human Perception and Performance. A professional peer-reviewed journal published 24 times per year by the American Psychological Association. JEP-HPP publishes experimental studies on all aspects of human (and sometimes animal & machine) perception and motor performance. Music-related articles appear from time to time.
  
  
• Journal of Research in Music Education. A peer-reviewed journal published by the (US) Music Educators National Conference (MENC). Emphasizes the teaching and learning of music with occasional articles addressing issues in music cognition.
  
  
• Journal of New Music Research. A peer-reviewed journal published quarterly in the Netherlands. An interdisciplinary publication noted for its mixing of music, psychology and computer science. Articles range from predominantly theoretical (aesthetics, sociology of music, music theory), to psychological topics (psychoacoustics, music perception and cognition), to computational (artificial intelligence, sound engineering, and modeling). Formerly published as "Interface".
  
  
• Journal of Experimental Psychology - Learning, Memory, and Cognition. A professional peer-reviewed journal published 12 times per year by the American Psychological Association. JEP-LMC publishes experimental studies on all aspects of cognition, learning, memory, imagery, concept formation, problem solving, decision making, thinking, reading, and language processing. Music-related articles appear from time to time (though less commonly than in JEP-HPP).

• International Computer Music Conference Proceedings. Annual publication associated with ICMC Conferences. Contains brief (typically 4-page) unedited reports. Often contains items relating to music performance, perception, or cognition from a computational point-of-view.
  
  
• Empirical Studies in the Arts. A peer-reviewed journal emphasizing experimental studies related to the arts, including literature, visual, and performing arts.
  
  
• Computer Music Journal. A peer-reviewed journal published quarterly. Emphasizes computer music systems, with occasional articles related to music perception, cognition, or music modeling.
  
  
• Music Theory Spectrum. A peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Society for Music Theory. Emphasizes music theory, analysis, aesthetics, history of theory, and narratology. Isolated articles related to music cognition.
  
  
• Music Theory Online. A peer-reviewed electronic journal published six times per year by the Society for Music Theory. Isolated articles related to music cognition.
  
  
• Quarterly Progress and Status Report. An electronic publication from the Department of Speech, Music and Hearing, at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The electronic format continues a printed publication that appeared four times per year for many years. A typical issue contains three or four articles reporting on music-related experiments, often emphasizing research on the human voice.
