Despite Cook's repeated emphasis on the above definition of culture, at one point, Cook himself lapses into offering a quite different definition of culture: "musical culture, like any other, is in essence no more and no less than a body of knowledge shared between culture-members." [p.242] This definition is much broader and leaves room not only for "imaginative knowledge," but for "facts of the matter" knowledge as well.
